On Saturday October 15th in North York, Ontario and looking for their eighth straight win to open the 2016 – 2017 season, the (7 – 0) North York Renegades hosted the (5 – 2 – 1) St. George Ravens in Greater Metro Hockey League action.

North York’s Zack Borges sinks the first goal of the game at 6:13 of the opening period to give the Renegades a 1 – 0 lead with David Maikawa and Justin Pirie drawing the helpers. Aaron Smith sinks the Ravens tying goal at the twelve minute mark of the period with Corey Flemington and Alex Boswell adding the assists. 37 seconds later and on a St. George power play, Chris Martin gives the visitors a two goal lead with Chris Haigh and Scott Dorion registering the contributors.

At 11:07 of the third and on a Renegade power play, Lucas Bascio brings the game to 2 – 2 for North York with Patrik Zilak and Joe Taylor setting up, Bascio’s power play goal. With the Renegades second power play goal of the game 37 seconds later, North York’s Alex Kidd gives the hosts a two goal lead. Raffaele Maietta and Alex Basey had the assists on Kidd’s goal. Justin Pirie finds the back of the Ravens net with 1:37 left in the game to hand St. George a 5 – 2 loss. Pirie goal came on an unassisted goal.

Renegade netminder Evan Purdy made 47 saves in North York’s eighth straight win of the season.

The (8 – 0) Renegades will head to Kingsville, Ontario on October 16th for an afternoon matinee against the (6 – 2 – 1) Kings at 3:00 p.m.
