THOMSON LIFTS RENEGADES PAST PREDATORS

At the Canlan Ice Sports York, the third place North York Renegades took to the ice to host the ninth place Toronto Predators on January 13th in a south division Greater Metro Hockey League match – up.

With the Renegades shorthanded 3:50 into the first, Conor Thomson finds Adrian Bertie to give North York a 1 – 0 lead. Nevin Guenther sinks the second of the period at the 5:33 mark of the period with Thomson and Nicolas Carnovale notching the assists on Guenther’s goal. At 7:16 of opening period, Renegade Drake Bailey scores the third of the period to give North York a 3 – o lead with Mark Mannarn and Bertie adding the helpers on Bailey’s power play marker. With 90 seconds left in the period, Kyle Peters pulls the Predators within two with a goal behind North York goaltender Evan Purdy to send Toronto into the first intermission down 3 – 1. Cole Schneider and Tyler Longo had the contributors on Peters’ power play goal. Only 55 seconds into the second, Mohamed El Shaboury and Christopher Mubiala drew the assists on Toronto’s Kyle Peters second of the game.

At 4:46 of the period, Jason Raimondi evens the game 3 – 3 for the Predators with Denzel Janes and Tyler Longo adding the contributors on Raimondi’s goal. Alexander Noble scores the fourth for the Renegades 16:08 into the period to give North York a 4 – 3 lead. Rick Pantling and Yuan Yichen set up Noble’s go – ahead goal. With one second remaining in the period, Carnivale sends North York into the second intermission up 5 – 3 with Bailey and Thomson registering the helpers on Carnovale’s power play goal. Noble fires his second of the contest 1:30 into the third with Thomson and Steven Santos notching the assists on Noble’s second of the game. Nathan Butkowski and Raimondi set up the Predator Frank Lorenz’s goal at 12:29. Renegade goaltender Evan Purdy turned away 32 of 36 shots in North York’s 6 – 4 win over Toronto.

Next up for the Renegades will be on January 19th in Toronto, Ontario at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in a 7:30 p.m against the Toronto Predators in south division GMHL action.
